Lessons from the Flooded Lands

The Bui Dam case offers a powerful lesson for Jamestown
The Bui Dam case offers a powerful lesson for Jamestown. There, the Heritage Impact Assessment evolved into more than a technical report. The archaeological team working on the project became:
- Mediators between affected communities and the Bui Power Authority
- Conflict resolvers, addressing grievances over land loss and resettlement
They undertook this role ethically and proactively, helping to navigate tensions and supporting townspeople who were deeply grieved by the loss of their land (Abrampah, 2021; Apoh & Gavua, 2016). Their work shows what is possible when heritage specialists are involved early and when community voices are taken seriously.
